Salvage Vancouver & Stanley Park Brewing

THE SALVAGE VANCOUVER STORY

We sat down with long-time friend, and local entrepreneur Luke Gaskin, owner of Salvage Vancouver, to share his story and tell us about the amazing work he does in our community to repurpose old growth fit, cedar and hardwood that is waiting to be saved and restored.

Our team Stanley Park Brewing, has had the privilege of working with Luke on countless projects over the years, from tap handles to bar builds, to menu boards and signage at our brewpub – all with the goal of giving salvaged wood a second life. To learn more about Luke and Salvage Vancouver, continuing reading below, and be sure to check out our latest project highlight reel here.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND HOW SALVAGE VANCOUVER STARTED?

“My name is Luke Gaskin – I’m an entrepreneur and the owner of Salvage Vancouver.

After working in construction for several years, I saw an opportunity after noticing the amount of waste being created in the demolition of homes throughout Vancouver. To my surprise, there was an ample supply of old growth wood that could be diverted from landfills and before I knew it, I had a small two car garage full of reclaimed wood to play with. This was the beginning of Salvage Vancouver in 2015.”

WHY SALVAGED WOOD AND HOW DO YOU BRING THESE PIECES TO LIFE?

“Salvage Vancouver has evolved over the years, and we now make custom furniture and home décor for restaurants and people all over BC. We supply reclaimed lumber to local wood workers and DIYers and love the community of local talent that gravitates towards our business. Having great relationships with our clients adds to the joy of going to work every day and giving back to the environment and community is a real bonus. If there’s one thing I’ve learned doing business in Vancouver, it’s that when we collaborate locally, we harness the best that the city has to offer.”

CAN YOU SHARE THE HISTROY OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH STANLEY PARK BREWING?

“I was lucky to be connected with Stanley Park Brewing in the early stages of my wood working career and I have always appreciated their openness to working with reclaimed wood and desire to create unique pieces for their clients and customers. My first big job with Stanley Park was an order of reclaimed wood beer paddles, that kicked off our relationship. It’s now eight years later and we are still working together. I’ve always enjoyed collaborating with Stanley Park and their willingness to allow my creative freedom on our projects.”

Be sure to check out all the unique projects that Luke and his team at Salvage Vancouver are always creating on their Instagram @salvage.vancouver and their website.

Cheers to always supporting local and finding the beauty in refurbishing and repurposing salvaged wood.
